Chargers: Gates wont Start but will Try and Play

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates expects not to be able to make his usual contribution Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. "I won't start the game, obviously, but just trying to monitor the situation and do all I can," Gates said. " . . . Just depending how it feels when I get out there, how I feel and whatever (the staff wants) me to do. "This thing (toe) is so tricky on what I'm able to do. There's times I'm out here and I feel like I'm Superman, and then there's times I come out here and it just won't allow me to do certain things. Sunday will definitely tell the tale and give me a clear picture of what I can do in the game."

Anyone else think this is going to be one of those all year type deals?

Yeah...I think it will be, Mike. This almost knocks him down to a Todd Heap...don't know if he'll play week to week - or how much he'll play. Just know he's good when he's healthy....but he may not be all season. Rough year to own Gates.

Thats my thoughts as well fletch but he still was drafted in most of my leagues as the #2 or 3 TE. I think owners were underestimating his injury status on draft day. I do not think I own him in one league I am in. Because fof this reason

I pick him up in one of the leagues I'm in as well but I hope his injury does'nt carry over all season like you said Todd's did last season lol I took Kevin Boss as my number two TE and what do you know he does'nt even get a look by Elli Manning oh well!

Plenty of TE's out there Like Zach Miller. get him if he is out there. Drop the Kevin Boss hype thats why Shockey was pissed that offense rarely goes to the TE.

Glad I didn't draft Gates in any of my leagues. Kevin Boss is a backup fantasy TE, nothing more.

yeah I figured if by chance Gates played he'd get targeted some against a hard defensive team like Carolina but decided to go with Boss being there was'nt many options to choose from.
