Thread: Legal Substitution

    Default Legal Substitution

We might need a league intepretation on this!

Does anyone see an issue with substituting an active player/team to a "bye week" player/team after the early games have started?

The Dolphins have been substituted by an inactive "bye" team (N.O.).

Here is our rule as written on our website, "Each team must have their starting lineups submitted on the website prior to their respective actual NFL game."

I'm not sure...but switching a legally playing team to one not playing (on a bye week) might be construed as an illegal substitution. N.O. never had an "actual NFL game" on this weeks schedule so how can you claim to switch a team/player that's playing "before game time" to another team/player "that was never scheduled to play that week" as legal...shouldn't N.O. and every other "bye" player/team be construed as "playing" as the earliest game for that week and therefore this would be an illegal substition and therefore an illegal lineup and give your team a "zero" score for the week...

Another factor is the word "starting" in our rules as it read below.

All starting lineups will consist of the following:
    - 1 Quarterback (QB)
    - 1 Running Back (RB)
    - 2 Wide Receivers (WR)
    - 1 Tight End (TE)
    - 2 Flex (RB,WR,TE)
    - 1 Kicker
    - 1 Defensive/ST Unit

A team on "bye" isn't starting, it is in fact "not playing" for the week. Last week when I had the Eagles on bye. I picked up the Lions in order to comply with a player/team was "starting".

maybe we will need to "penalize" owner points for not fielding "playing" positions...if an owner had another "playing" player/team to substitute then I wouldn't be bringing this up...

Just curious on this...thanks for reading my post...

Jim made a good argument in his e-mail and I appreciate his perspective.

I truly do believe a rule has been violated and it's our substitution..

"Bye" teams don't have scheduled "game times".

If this substitution stands, then the league is saying N.O. or any "bye" player is available until game time Monday night at 6:30 pm. If he had "played" his "bye" player at kickoff on Sunday at 1 pm then I'd be fine with it, but to wait until all one team's players have finished and then make an "official" substitution with a team that has no "scheduled game" time for the week seems awkward.

Also, since bye weeks only last from week 3 to week 10. This substitution pattern only works for part of the year. If someone had tried this in weeks 1 or 2 or after week 10, the owner would've been restricted to Dolphin or Jets players/teams not one of the 5 or 6 teams on bye...
