    Chiefs Chiefs Draft Thread

I really can't put my finger on the pulse here...I have no idea what KC is going to do when they're on the clock. Of course, the consensus is they will pick Aaron Curry - arguably the best overall prospect in this draft and most ready to make a huge impact at a position of need.

However...Pioli has gone out and found a couple of old-timers at linebacker in Vrabel and Thomas - neither of which are long term solutions, but could allow the Chiefs some flexibility in not having to take Curry at #3, or allow them to trade out of the pick and bolster another position of need later in round 1. Right now, the top 4 linebackers on this roster are Derrick Johnson, Vrabel, Thomas, and Demorrio Williams. If they Chiefs go to a 3-4, these are the guys at this point. Not great by any stretch of the imagination - but did you see what they trotted onto the field at this position last year???

The Chiefs also need help on both lines. If they move to a 3-4, I would assume your DT will be Tank Tyler due to his size and ability to clog up running lanes...which means Dorsey may move to an end position in this type of D. Not really ideal...but many seem to think he can play there should the defensive shift happen. That also leaves Tamba Hali on the other end.

On the offensive line...they just drafted Albert in 2008 and he became the starting left tackle. Do they really want to spend the #3 on a guy who will come in and play right tackle? Or do they spend it on another left tackle and move Albert to the right side (or even inside to a guard spot)? I can't imagine them moving such a highly touted pick inside to guard...but could see them drafting another tackle and having bookends for the next 10 years. However...if they want a right tackle, they could get one later in the draft.

This leaves them looking at another possibility in Crabtree at WR. Todd Haley built his rep on the Arizona vertical game...and having Crabtree, Bowe, and Cassel would give him some good parts to work with (plus Tony G. if they don't move him).

Not sure which direction they'll go....but I'm thinking they'll want to pick again in round 2 (traded pick away), which means they'll likely look to trade back, or trade someone like Gonzo for a round 2...or do both....

Or, of course, they could just do what everyone thinks they'll do and draft Curry.

Should be interesting to see how it all goes down.

That was the most impressive waffling display since the last time norbit hit on you

rep sent, I think they go Curry unless they can find a suitor for Sanchez to beat out SEA at #4. If thats the case I say they take it, they lose Curry probably but address multiple needs, that would probably be Pioli's favorite scenario..

I think that's what they're trying to do as well...trade back. They REALLY need to fill several holes, and Curry will only plug one of 'em. This is probably the most lost I've been as far as a Chiefs draft in a long time...Pioli is so damn quiet about everything...

I think the likely scenario is they try to shop Tony G. for a pick or two...if someone wants Sanchez bad enough, they could swap out of the #3...but it almost never happens that a pick that high is traded. Just hard to get the value out of it. They'd have to get a first and second rounder to make it work, in my opinion.

I think Seattle passes on Sanchez, so KC getting someone to trade to take him might not happen.

I think its Curry, and with him and Johnson in your LB crew, you will be solid for years to come.

only thing that would throw a monkey wrench into the Curry plan would be Detroit taking him (some of the draft "gurus" are starting to wonder if it's a possibility).

Curious what some of you think of this idea:

What if Pioli looks to move Dorsey?? Yes he was their #1 last season and it would be almost inconceivable for them to give up on him already...but as I mentioned above - they are likely beginning a shift to a 3-4 D (could be some kind of hybrid D this season) and Dorsey doesn't fit in the middle of a 3-4 line....I am just not sold on him being able to slide out to the end if this happens.

The rumor is flying around KC and just curious if anyone else has heard much on the topic? That would free the Chiefs up to draft an elite end with the #3 (Orkakpo maybe) and go with a line of Hali, Tank Tyler, Orakpo (or other draftee).

Heard an interesting rumor this morning....that Denver has offered both of their first rounders to KC for the #3. This would give KC #12 and 18 for the #3, and Denver wants Sanchez with that pick.

Highly unlikely this is true...teams within the same division just usually don't deal with each other, especially not with high draft picks. But I'd be ok with that.

On a side note - The CEO of my company emailed everyone a little draft trivia the other day with the prize being two tickets to the Chiefs draft party and the new practice facility...first to answer correctly won, which of course was me......

The question was: 2003 Draft - KC swapped first round picks with another team, name the team and the players drafted with each pick. It was the Steelers, and the players were Polamalu and Larry Johnson.

Anyway - I'll be at the draft party this Saturday....should be fun...several players are supposed to be there, etc. I normally hang with a bunch of college buddies for an all weekend blowout...but this should be interesting I suppose...something different for a change.

What about Monroe at 3 if the Chiefs stay put? I think that has to be a legit option for them.

    Congrats on the trivia!

I just don't know about going O-line at the #3 this year...I wouldn't be opposed to it - gotta protect that $14 million QB....But do you then ask last year's first rounder (Albert) to move to right tackle? Would that piss him off? I just don't know...if they really want a right tackle, they can get one in round 3. The top 5 or 6 tackles in this draft will be taken as left tackles, and after that, you just don't know if you're getting a left or right, in my opinion. If they can go another direction at #3, and get a right tackle later, I'd probably go that route. But I wouldn't be upset if we had two bookends on the line for the next 10-12 seasons.

So the Chiefs grab Tyson Jackson and then trade out of round 2. Saw that coming I am not sure what they are doing in the middle of the country.
Anyone want to start another league next year? PM Me if interested.
