Thread: Matt Stafford, QB

Potential first overall pick Matthew Stafford had a 61.4 completion percentage at Georgia, a number that is scaring some around the Lions.

In the last ten NFL Drafts, 21 quarterbacks have been drafted in the first round, but only nine had a completion percentage lower than Stafford's, according to Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press.

Those nine were: Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman, Joey Harrington, J.P. Losman, Donovan McNabb, Cade McNown, Patrick Ramsey, Akili Smith, and Michael Vick.

Only McNabb is still a starter in the NFL

Lions rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford threw rather poorly in his first official practice with the team on Friday.

Head coach Jim Schwartz blamed Stafford's poor throws, which the Detroit News characterized as "high and wide," on nerves.

"Overanxious, I guess you would say," Schwartz said. "What happens, and that is probably the case with 90 percent of the guys here, when you go through a first practice as a rookie, you're so anxious to get going. You're out of control and things like that. Later in practice you settle down a bit. I think we saw that with Matthew a bit today. He was just champing at the bit early with some wild throws. But he settled into a groove, worked with some of the wide receivers and all of a sudden you started seeing some better things in practice."

He seems to be progressing through OTA's to the point the Lions will have him starting next season, for no other reason than he earned it. With how awesome the Lions are, thats saying something..lol He has been wowing his team with his arm and his touch so thats good.

Everyone knows Freeman will be the gem of this draft, Stafford will be a qb coach like Leaf eventually.
